HUMIDITY CREATES UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCES

Insufficient humidity control may contribute to uncomfortable situations for water sports businesses and enthusiasts, ruining experiences and leading to:

  • Mould growth and bacteria on wetsuits and equipment
  • Problems with condensation which can damage structures
  • An unpleasant environment for customers
  • Safety risks for staff and guests

These negative consequences can occur when there is a lack of humidity monitoring and control, leading to real challenges for water sports business owners. In addition, the health and well-being of staff and customers can be negatively impacted.

RESOLVING HUMIDITY ISSUES

Controlling the dew point (temperature at which moisture in the air turns into liquid i.e., water) is the key to eliminating condensation-related issues such as mould and structural damage. By using a dry-air solution to keep the relative humidity around 65%, it is possible to avoid humidity-related problems.

THE RIGHT WAY TO DRY FOR THE AARHUS WATERSPORTS COMPLEX

Established in 2016 and located in the heart of Aarhus' harbour, Aarhus Watersports Complex (AWC) offers a range of activities such as wakeboarding, water skiing and SUP. Right by the water and easy to access, it offers options for every type of water sports enthusiast. AWC has 1,500 members and attracts more than 20,000 visitors every year.

AWC BEFORE COTES DRY-AIR SOLUTIONS

Before contacting Cotes, AWC was struggling with serious drying problems. The lack of proper equipment for drying wetsuits was resulting in longer wait times for visitors and difficulties for employees to cope with high demand as well as unsatisfied customers.

AWC tried a number of solutions such as placing wetsuits outside to dry and drilling holes in the storage containers to bring more air to absorb the moisture from the wetsuits. But humidity was still a big issue affecting many aspects of the business.

"Before contact with Cotes, everything was damp - and some items were even mouldy. Imagine coming for your first visit and being handed a soaking wet wetsuit - it didn't make a good first impression", says AWC founder Kenneth Enggaard Christensen.

AWC AFTER COTES DRY-AIR SOLUTIONS

AWC has benefited greatly from the collaboration with Cotes. Conditions have improved, leading to a longer lifespan for wetsuits and equipment, eliminating mould and creating greater customer satisfaction. Two dehumidifiers have been installed: (1) a Cotes CR240B in the backroom to dry the employees' and volunteers' wetsuits, boards and other equipment and (2) a Cotes CR400B in the front room to dry rental wetsuits.

"The most significant change since installing the dehumidifiers has definitely been customer satisfaction. We don’t hear any complaints when we hand over wetsuits anymore", says AWC founder Kenneth Enggaard Christensen.
