In the storage industry, maintaining optimal environmental conditions is crucial for preserving the quality and longevity of stored products. In Sri Lanka, a factory was confronted with high humidity levels in their cold store, which could potentially cause deterioration of the products. The cold store, with a volume of 19,866 m³, required an effective solution to address this challenge.

Humidity Control in Sri Lankas’ Factory

The Sri Lankan factory faced significant humidity challenges due to frequently open gates, allowing moisture-rich air to enter. Outside conditions often reached up to 32–34°C with a relative humidity of 90%, presenting a substantial moisture load. To address this issue, the production facility approached our partner CTS BeNeLux, who led the project and implemented the solution.

The Best Dehumidifier for Storage

Frequent door openings for loading and unloading goods allowed a constant flow of humid outdoor air into the cold store, with outside relative humidity often remaining high. To maintain optimal conditions, two Cotes C65E-19 PLC-B dehumidifiers were installed boasting a dehumidification capacity of 38 kg/h. This robust setup ensured that excess moisture was effectively removed, stabilising the internal environment.

These units successfully reduced the indoor relative humidity from 85% to the targeted 65%, thereby enhancing product protection. With an internal temperature of approximately 12–14 °C, the environment remained above freezing, making the C65E a suitable and efficient solution for this application.

The installation of the Cotes C65E units not only protects valuable inventory but also reduces the potential for product loss due.

Since the installation of the dehumidifiers, the feedback from the client has been positive. They noted:

"Cotes dryers are working very well, state-of-the-art drying machinery, thank you for that!"

This case story exemplifies the critical role of advanced dehumidification technology in managing challenging humidity conditions in cold stores. By integrating Cotes adsorption dehumidifiers, the Sri Lankan factory has fortified its operations against the adverse effects of humidity, ensuring the longevity and quality of its products.

Why Humidity Control is Essential in Cold Storage

Managing humidity is vital in cold storage facilities for several reasons:

  • Mould Prevention: High humidity levels can lead to mould growth, which can compromise product quality and result in significant financial losses.
  • Product Integrity: Consistently high humidity affects the integrity of stored goods.
